Chinese Calligraphy:the Modern Interpretation of its Traditional Form

中国书法与中国文字相伴而生。字体的衍变为书体的发展带来生机与活力:一方面它对自由的书体进行规约与限制,另一方面亦为笔法体势的生成与拓展注入了新的内质。汉字信息的传播在印刷术尚不发达的古代,龟甲兽骨、钟鼎盘铭、简牍巨石、绢帛纸素是其栖身之所。不同的文字载体,经由书刻者及历史老人的共同塑造,形成了丰富的笔法体系与审美语境,为后世的书法创作提供了取之不尽,用之不竭的源泉。从实用的文字书写走向审美的艺术表现,是中国书法得以生存与延续的必经之路。文意对书意的导引,书意对文意的提携,既是书法艺术之独特性所在,也是书法艺术的理想境界。

Chinese calligraphy(CC) and Chinese characters(CC) were created ad jointly.The evolvement of fonts brings vigor to the development of calligraphy.On one hand,it restricts the freedom of Chinese characters;on the other hand,it brings some new elements to the styles of Chinese calligraphy.In ancient times when printing was not developed,information was spread mainly by means of oracle-bone characters,Great Seal characters(inscribed on bells and cooking vessels made of bronze),bamboos,wood,stones,or silk.Different styles of characters,created and developed by writers and seal cutting artists,have formed abundant systems and aesthetic values for calligraphy,provided followers with limitless resources.The transition of Chinese characters from having a practical value to having an aesthetic value is a way that Chinese calligraphy has to go through for survival and evolvement.Chinese characters lead and instruct Chinese calligraphy while the latter helps and assists the former,which not only forms the unique art of Chinese calligraphy,but enables it to reach an ideal state as well.
