Tautology,an apparently meaningless expression in which one word is defined as itself,exists in many languages.But in different languages tautologies are different in the structure and functions.The differences between English and Chinese tautology are studied from the perspectives of word class,structural patterns,linking verb,and the flexibility of expression.The realization of these differences helps to understand and use both English and Chinese tautologies.
