American semotician Sebeok applies Modeling theory to the semantic study.According to the Modeling theory,meaning can research different levels including the perception of acoustic features,semiosis,modeling and representation.In each level,the motivation for meaning genesis is explored,which in turn provides the foundation for the iconicity in meaning genesis.From the perspective of Sebeoke＇ Modeling theory,the iconicity of Chinese and English words is presented and compared.
