Cognitive Study on the Nature of the Middle-verb's Transitivity

英语中动构式中动词及物性问题一直是一个有争议的问题。实际上传统语法无法解决中动词的及物性问题。试图运用Hopper&Thompson概括的动词及物性原型特征的标准和认知语言学中的构式语法理论揭示中动词及物性的实质。分析指出:英语的中动词属于及物动词的边缘成员,仍然具备及物动词的某些特征,但该动词的及物性的某些特征由于受到该构式的语义限制,或隐含或迁移,因而在句法形式上表现为不及物性。

It has been a controversial problem for the transitivity of middle verb of English middle construction,in fact,this problem can not be solved in traditional grammar. This paper will try to reveal the nature of transitivity of middle verb with the parameters of transitivity listed Hopper Thompson and the construction grammar. A tentative conclusion is thereby obtained that the mid-verb still belongs to category of transitive verb and has certain features of this category,but owing to the semantic coercion in the formation of the middle construction,the transitivity is reduced or made implicit and therefore assumes the form of low transitivity or intransitivity.
