In Susan Handelman's two representative works on Judaist studies, she explicates ideas of writing in Judaism.According to her, writing and the Torah possess divine status in Judaism.Accordingly,Jewish people believe in an "absent" or withdrawn God,who is only embodied in trace. Moreover,in her opinion,Judaism has used a heretical hermeneutic method for a long time, which treats the tradition in the manner of displacement and re-writing.However,it is precisely through the absorption of these "heretical" ideas that the tradition can be renewed. In the eyes of Handelman, this approach can be seen in the contemporary theories of Freud and Derrida, among others, who are therefore considered "the slayers of Moses".
