Pragmatic perspectives on the descriptive silence in Chinese culture

在回顾前人研究成果的基础上进一步探讨了沉默语用观,提出了一般性沉默和描写性沉默的概念,强调了以下观点:1)中国文化背景下的描写性沉默能使信息量得到膨胀;2)描写性沉默既是一种语用原则又是一种动态的具有一定强制性的语用策略。

This thesis,based on the previous researches,further probes into pragmatic perspectives on silence,especially the descriptive one,and illustrates the differences between general silence and the descriptive silence,the differences between a local context and a global context,with some examples.In this paper,the following ideas are emphasized： a） the descriptive silence in the Chinese cultural background makes meaning expand;b） the descriptive silence is both a pragmatic principle and pragmatic dynamic strategy under a certain degree of constraint.
