Alfred Lord Tennyson＇s masterpiece In Memoriam consists of 131 short poems.This work,quite sincere and touching,expresses the poet＇s sorrow of losing his best friend Arther Henry Hallam.The poem records Tennyson＇s spiritual journey and touches upon many problems that beset all Victorians such as the relations between God and Nature,good and evil,life and death.However,the core theme of the poem is the conflict and reconciliation between the development of the science and religious belief,which reflects the ＂faith crisis＂ of the Victorian Era.As the ＂Poet of People＂,Tennyson tried to find the answer to ＂belief or disbelief＂ for the Victorian people and himself by means of this poem.
