Make note of the 12th day of the seventh lunar month.That is the day each year that young Tujia people in the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture,in Central China’s Hubei Province,go to local markets in search of lovers.Before New China was founded,young Tujia women were not allowed to go out,except on the above-mentioned date—when they gathered at local markets.Therefore,it was called "Young Tujia Women’s Meeting Day." Now,it is often referred to as "Oriental Valentine’s Day." This month,Women of China English Monthly offers readers a glimpse at young Tujia people and their dating rituals.
每年农历7月12日，恩施土家阿妹、阿哥云集于市，以赶集为由，暗中寻找心上人，这就是被人们喻为“东方情人节”的“土家女儿会”，旧时，土家女儿平素不得出门，惟这天云集于会，故称“女儿会”，在大山深处，探访那原汁原味的相亲大会别有一番情趣。
