Contemporary significance of urban-rural relations theory of Marx and Engels

马克思恩格斯城乡关系理论指出:人类社会发展要经历一个从城乡对立到城乡融合的过程;在这一过程中要注重农业的基础地位和城市的中心作用;人类社会只有消灭私有制,经过生产力的发展,改变生产方式才能为城乡融合提供条件。中国社会正经历着从城乡二元体制到城乡一体化的发展进程,因此统筹城乡发展成为全面建设小康社会的重大任务。马克思恩格斯的城乡关系理论坚定了中国推进统筹城乡发展的信心,指明了前进方向,对今天统筹城乡发展具有非常重要的现实指导意义。

According to the urban-rural relations theory advocated by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels,human societies tend to undergo a transitional development period during which the opposing urban-rural relations would eventually be replaced by an integrating tendency.To facilitate a smooth transition,the foundational position of agriculture and the central leading position of the cities should be equally stressed.In addition,eliminating private ownership,enhancing productivity and improving production mode would certainly contribute to a successful urban-rural integration.Presently as China is evolving from an urban-rural dual system to an urban-rural integration stage,coordinating the urban and rural development would be an essential task for building a whole-scale well-off society.The urban and rural relations theory proposed by Marx and Engels may act as a guideline that we can draw upon in our practice to coordinate the urban and rural development as it is inspiring and clearly set.
