Regarded as "American Wordsworth", William Bryant was one of the outstanding American romantic poets in the 19th century. The depiction in his works is subtle and rich in imageries. Christina Rossetti, a poetess 36 years younger than W. Bryant, was a legendary figure in the British Victorian Age. With acute observation and sweet lyricism, she created many poems with harmonious rhythm. Through a comparative study of these two poets' death poems in themes, imageries, changes in intonation and lyrical objects etc, this paper reveals that in Bryant' s works the soul achieved re - birth in the delight amid melancholy; while in Rossetti' s poems the ego gained sublimation in the open -mindedness amid sentiments.
