Metaphor serves not only as a rhetorical device, but also as a powerful cognitive tool. It plays an important role in human being＇s familiarity with objects, concept formation and development of the vocabulary system. Taking advantage of the metaphor theory, teachers are expected to teach English vocabulary in a new way, which enables students to master words more efficiently and helps them cultivate their intellect as well.
