Liang Qichao's Utilitarianism

清末以来,西方各种思想学说迅速传入中国,但很多发生了"转变"和"调适"。梁启超的功利观也是如此。梁启超的功利观是一种基于"群己和谐"的功利观,但是在民族主义、国家主义盛行的清末,其功利观明显强调"集体利益",是一种以群体为本位的功利观,与西方以个人为本位的功利观不同。

All kinds of western thoughts were introduced to China since late Qing dynasty.However,those western thoughts were 'transformed' and 'adapted' in China.So was Liang Qichao's view of utilitarianism which was based on harmony between individuals and society.But in a time when nationalism prevailed,his utilitarianism obviously emphasized collective interest and thus it was a community-based utilitarianism which was far different from the western utilitarianism which focused on individuals.
