Special Economic Zones in the Perspective of Cross-Straits Relations

20世纪七八十年代之交,中国大陆经济特区的崛起,是多重因素作用的结果,台湾海峡两岸关系问题,则是其中重要因素之一。台湾兴办加工出口区的经验是大陆创设经济特区的重要借鉴对象,为解决两岸问题创造条件是经济特区的重要目标,促进两岸经贸往来是经济特区的重要政策取向,而台商企业则是经济特区建设中一支重要经济力量。

The appearance of special economic zones （SEZs） on the mainland of China at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s was a result of multiple factors with relations across the Taiwan Straits being an important one of them. The experience of Taiwan in setting up export processing zones provided an important source of reference for the mainland to establish the SEZs, an important objective of the creation of the SEZs was to create conditions for sol- ving the problems across the straits, the major policy orientation was to promote economic and trade exchanges between the two sides and the businesses in Taiwan proved to be a vital force in the construction of the SEZs.
