试论晚清社会文化语境下的翻译小说

On Translated Novels in the Cultural Context of Late Qing Dynasty

晚清是小说翻译的初创时期。由于译者缺乏对翻译本质的认识,加上社会意识形态和译者主体价值观的操控,使得当时的小说译文普遍存在着不忠实现象。这个时期的翻译小说在原文本的选择、翻译策略的选择、翻译方法以及对译文的处理具有鲜明的时代特征,总体把握晚清翻译小说的概貌,对于理解中国文学翻译的发展轨迹不无裨益。

Late Qing Dynasty was an initial period of novel translations.As translators lacked the cognition of translation essence and fell under the influence of the social ideology and the translators’ own values,the translated novels were not faithful to the original novels.The translators’ choices of original novels and translation strategies and methods as well as their handling of translated versions in this period strikingly manifest a time feature.Therefore,an overall grasp of the translated novels in late Qing Dynasty is quite helpful to understand the trajectory of China’s literary translation.
