The trends in performance for next-generation air-to-air missiles include greater maneuverability, higher flight speed, longer range, a loiter capability, low-smoke motors, smaller wings and multiple warheads. Air-to-air missiles guidance systems are not showing any clear trends for the future. A building-block approach is a less complex and less expensive option likely to emerge in air-to-air missiles design.
