Studies of Advanced Manned Launch System (AMLS) at the NASA Langley Re-search Center are examining all-rocket and air-breathing rocket options for the nexf-generation US manned space transportation system. The objective of this paper is to present a report on current AMLS activities including an examination of the effects of technology levels and initial operational capability(IOC) dates on the types of vehicle concepts, a comparison of all rocket and air-breathing / rocket systems for orbital transport, and the influence of operations and costs on these concepts.
