摘要
以国际关系学界对文明的三次讨论为背景,作者重点论述了"后本质主义文明"的基本假定和分析框架,并由此延伸讨论了国际政治文明研究的未来议程。后本质主义从文明的过程本体出发,构建了一个"过程(process)"、"实践(prac-tice)"和"参与者(participants)"三位一体的文明研究模式;文明就是文明化过程,实践是塑造文明内在逻辑和相对边界的政治和话语实践,参与者逻辑就是从参与者的视角观察文明化过程。后本质主义颠覆了文明本质决定论,强调了文明的能动性和文明化的力量。
Taking as the background the three intellectual debates on civilizations in the field of International Relations,this paper focuses on the key assumptions and analytical approaches of 'post-essentialist civilizations,' and discusses the future agenda of civilizational studies in international politics. Post-essentialism,with its ontology of process,constructs a 'three-p' model,i.e. process,practice,and participants in trinity. 'Process' means that civilizations are civilizing processes; 'practice' refers to the political and practical discourses that constitute the logic of civilizations and their relative boundaries; and 'participants' stresses that civilizing processes are observed from the perspectives of their participants. Post-essentialism overcomes the determinism of essentialist civilizations,shifting emphasis onto the dynamics of civilizations and the force of civilizing processes.
