Based on the fact that in the genome there are genes which can code for RNAs and numerous non-coding DNAs,the authors consider that:both genes and non-coding DNAs of a species' genome contain the information of(a)evolution events that species underwent,(b)changes of the environment,(c)shifts of the organism's structure and function. These information can be decoded from genome if some proper approaches are devised, thus gives rise to genome archaeology,a new discipline which is completely different from fossil archaeology and ancient DNA archaeology.
