A Down-to-Earth Conception,An Innovative Theory:On CAO Minglun's Differentiation between "Textual Purpose" and "Non-Textual Purpose" in Translation

曹明伦教授在其新作《翻译之道:理论与实践》中首次以全景视角,界定并区分了"文本目的"与"非文本目的",以二元划分结束了对翻译目的之认识的多元化格局,廓清了认识,统一了思想,对重新明确翻译的本质属性、界定译者的根本任务、规范译者的基本行为、保持翻译学的学科特点及避免学科危机有着重要的意义。

In his lately published monograph The Way of Translation： Theory and Practice,CAO Minglun for the first time in the field of translation studies defines and distinguishes between ＂textual purpose＂ and ＂non-textual purpose＂.This binary classification,which views translation purposes from a panoramic perspective,has ended diversified interpretations,clarified misunderstandings and enabled us to reach a consensus.With this enhanced understanding,the academic circles of translation studies now can more accurately define the nature of translation,the fundamental task of the translator and the code of conduct regulating his behavior.Moreover,a new understanding in this regard is of directive significance for the efforts to maintain the disciplinary features of translation studies and to save it from a disciplinary crisis.
