Noun-string Pre-modification in Technical English Writing

针对现代科技信息量大的特点,要提高阅读效率,作者就要以便于读者理解的方式撰写文章。名词前置定语连用会造成词语间的语义关系不清,以及名词定语和主语、宾语、表语的混淆,从而导致在阅读过程中大脑对意群重复识别的现象,降低阅读速度。这些问题可以通过在相关的前置修饰语之间加连字符和把前置定语改为后置定语的办法来解决。

Owing to a huge amount of information in modern science and technology,technical writers should write in a way that is made easy for readers to understand in order to improve reading efficiency.Noun-string pre-modification may cause ambiguous relationship between the words in a phrase,and apparent confusion among pre-modifying nouns and the modified subject,object or predicative,which may cause our brain to repeatedly adjust the process of word-group recognition and thus reduce the reading speed.These problems,however,can be solved by inserting a hyphen between related pre-modifiers and by changing pre-modifiers into post modifiers.
