Li Bihua＇sFarewell to My Concubine experienced the dual adapting process from the novel to film, and then from film to the novel. In this process, the different adapted intentions of the director and the writer can be found. The different works created by Li Bihua and Chen Kaige both showed complex human nature under the context of the times. While Chen Kaige put emphasis on the social factors caused by the Cultural Revolution, Li Bihua revealed the anxiety of her own identity recognition as a Hong Kong dweller.
