Hailanpao originally belonged to China but was renamed Blagoveshchensk after it ceded to Russia after the signing of the"Treaty of Ai'hui" in the mid-19^th century. According to Russian language sources, historical facts and Russian traditional cultures, this Russian name does not mean simply sending good news to the tsar after occupation of the northern land of Heilongjiang, but from the church name in accordance with the Orthodox festival.
