Polysemy is an important language phenomenon,and exists in various languages generally.It is a characteristic of English vocabulary.However,the complexity of polysemy brings learners much difficulty.This article analysis the causes and ways in which polysemy comes into being with examples.Based on this,the writer explores some methods which are useful for learners when they acquire English vocabulary,especially English polysemes——The English learners should sum up the polysemes regularly,have a good command of the primary meaning,and pay attention to the contexts in which polysemes occur.
