1874年日本派军入侵琉球,1875年3月吞并琉球,废琉球国王,将琉球变成日本的殖民地。在中日琉球之争中,美国前总统格兰特的调停成为李鸿章条约交涉之居间调处法的典型运用。

Ryukyu was invaded by Japanese troops in 1874 and annexed in March,1875.The King of Ryukyu was then dethroned and the country reduced to Japanese colony.In the Sino-Japanese dispute over Ryukyu,the intermediation effort by Ulysses S.Grant,the ex-president of America was a typical application of Li Hongzhang＇s intermediate method of treaty negotiations.
