The research on carbon alloys in Japan becomes more important recently.The origin,the definition and the classification of “carbon alloys”have been introduced.Some key research projects in Japan as well as its plan and organiation are emphasized.Carbon alloys as a new concept and research field,has been reviewed according to the aspects of structure control,materials preparation and functional development.Moreover,some recent results obtained by Japanese scientists are commended.
