The industrial layout has been an effective means to achieve goals in economic development strategies.Since 1949 when New China was founded,the industrial layout in China has evolved from balanced development to unbalanced development and eventually to coordinated regional development.These developments adapted themselves to the corresponding productivity as dominated in the different economic periods and solved the main problems confronting the social-economic development in different historical times.Such an evolution reflects an ever better understanding in China of the inherent laws of industrial development as well as a probe into building socialism with Chinese characteristics.A full understanding of the evolution of region-based industrial layout in China and its resulting impacts will serve as an enriched source of historical materials and theoretical revelation to the theory and practice of industrial layout.
