Gentle Laments:Urban and Rural Preference in Prose of Beijing-School Scholars

在沈从文、李广田、萧乾、何其芳、师陀等京派文人的很多散文中,有着很浓的乡情悲剧意识。这种乡情不是简单地表现为"思",而是一种交织着多种情感的矛盾和痛苦的"思",有着在"城""乡"两个精神驿站之间选择的一种两可两难、两可两不可、无所依着的悲剧情怀和民族化的悲剧性。京派文人遇到了血缘祖籍认同与都市本地认同的双重尴尬。

A distinct tragic consciousness of nostalgia can be discerned in numerous prose by scholars of Beijing School such as Shen Congwen,Li Guangtian,Xiao Gan,He Qifang,Shi Tuo,etc.In their prose,the nostalgia is a ＂thought＂ mingling the contradiction and anguish of various emotions,which mirrors a tragic sentiment and national tragedy derived from a hard,reluctant and indeterminate choice between two intillectual posts—the city or the countryside.In short,scholars of Beijing School have met with the dual bewilderment of identifying themselves with blood relationship as well as with their status of urban residents.
