Being isolated from all landmasses, energy security and independence have become key issues in the development of Hawaii economy. Hawaii will have to overcome regulatory, institutional and financial barriers in order to achieve the goal of energy independence. Based on its resource advantages, Hawaii has been concentrating on innovation in developing and exploiting clean energies, including wind power, ocean wave and solar energy. These innovations will provide Hawaii with sound competitiveness in future development.
