On Chinese Forefathers' Sense of Aesthetics with Special Reference to "Goat" Symbolizing Goadluch

"羊"在华夏先民的生活中占有重要的位置,祭祀、生活、审美观念都与"羊"密切相关。本文从"羊"字族的探研中,体察华夏先民对"羊"的情感态度以及当时的审美观。

It can be witnessed that ＂goat＂--yang, in Chinese, played a vital part in sacrificial offerings to ancestors, a source of food in daily life and an evidence to appreciation of the beautiful in the Chinese forefathers＇ life. The paper attempts to categorize as a group some of Chinese characters beating ＂goat＂ as the basic structural part, and in succession makes an inquiry into their denotations and connotations, where Chinese forefathers＇ positive attitude toward ＂goat＂ may be found both as a preference for goodluek or fortune and a criterion to sense of aesthetics.
