2010 Lenovo Mobile Internet Developers Conference was held in the suburb of Beijing on Nov. 12. The conference room has been flooded with over a thousand mobile Internet developers. For most of them, this is the first time they have business contact with the No.1 PC manufacturer in China. When Yang Yuanqing, CEO of Lenovo Group Limited (Lenovo), jumped onto the stage with leisure wearing, he told the audience a secret joyfully: he likes playing card games on Lenovo's self-developed handset--LePone during work breaks. This is very different from his serious, powerful CEO image before the public. He may want to draw close to developers in such a relaxed way. Behind him, Lenovo is exploring the mobile Internet, a field that is totally different from the traditional PC industry and with brand new market rules. In the past two decades, Lenovo has been cultivating carefully on the PC market, and finally became the fourth largest PC brand in the world through the merger with IBM's PC department. This has also made Lenovo the only Chinese personal consuming brand on the global market. But it has to admit that it is still a green hand on the mobile Internet market, facing various challenges such as technologies, company culture, etc. Insiders doubt whether the giant can win developers and users' recognition again in the new field. Lenovo has no time to wait. As the mobile Internet and networks convergence is under way, the PC industry is facing an opportunity as well as a challenge. Lenovo does not want to lose its future and to be eliminated from the competition, it must hold fast to the opportunity, to invest and occupy the new market. It remains to be seen whether Lenovo can survive this crisis of industrial change. At least, Yang is full of confidence as a veteran fighter.
