Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio shows a new aesthetic value preference in its attitude toward alternative images: a tendency towards alternative immortalization. This is an inheritance of the idea of fox spirits in the folklore and the combination of immortal and prostitute in the post-Tang Dynasty literature. The praise of alternative females or even their immortalization by Pu Songling is an embodiment of his pursuit of ideal humanity and romantic poetic heart.
