摘要
本文主旨在于阐释美国文学经典建构与清教思想传统的关系,以多克托罗的小说《上帝之城》为例来评析美国当代文学经典建构与清教传统的关系,提出美国作家对社会现实的强烈批判意识构成了美国文学经典传承的核心特征之一,而《上帝之城》在很大程度上体现了这种鲜明的特征。
This paper intends to discuss the interaction between the legacy of Puritanism and the formation of American literary canon by focusing on the review of E.L.Doctorw's novel City of God.Through detailed analyses of the novel's thematic concerns and postmodern narrative devices,the paper stresses a key feature of canon-formation exemplified in the novel,eg.a strong sense of the critical reflection on the American society and human nature.Like many other canonical writers in the US,Doctorow demonstrates once again the sharpness in criticising the negative aspects of American societies.
