《七角楼》是一篇以运用象征手法见长的长篇小说。作者将象征意义广泛且成功地应用于小说的各个场景以及正面和反面人物中,从而使得故事主题更加深化,情节更显跌宕起伏。
The House of Seven Gables is a long novel with the wide use of symbolism. In the novel, the setting like house and garden have all been symbolized. In addition, the characters whether protagonists or antagonists have been depicted in rich symbolic meanings. The employment of symbolism has facilitated the novel a deeper theme, and more thrilling plots. This paper is to make a tentative exploration of the successful use of symbolism in the novel.
