Areview of the literature on ectopic prostatic tissue reveals about 200 reports dating back to as early as 1894. The presence of prostate tissue outside the genitourinary system is extremely rare. It is usually incidentally found in surgical pathology and autopsy. Including the present case, there are only 16 cases of ectopic prostatic tissue outside the genitourinary system reported.
