There was a new peak of the small regular script (or xiaokai) in Ming Dynasty especially represented by Wumen School of Calligraphy and the emerging of many famous small regular script calligraphers such as Zhu Yunming, Wen Zhengming and Wang Chong, etc. Once been praised as top small regular script calligrapher in Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yunming's calligraphy shows various features. In the early stage, Zhu's calligraphy appears a style of vigorous, energetic, prudence, even and straight; as stepped into middle phase, his small regular script turns to be demure, dignified and thick which follow the example of Zhong Yao and Yah Lu Gong, and shows a figure of both simple plain and freewheeling; in his later period, Zhu introduced the style of cursive script into regular script and become more free in writing, which fully exhibited Zhu's calligraphy can be even and straight as well as bold and unconstrained.
