尽管茅盾一再把《野蔷薇》的主题往革命的方向指引,但对女性个性解放的追求与命运的表现,对旧社会、旧礼教的批判,却使《野蔷薇》在主题上与五四时期关注女性解放的小说一脉相承。对个性解放思想在改变女性命运方面的能力与成效的质疑,对男权思想和社会旧势力的批判以及对革命的揶揄和讽刺,既显示了《野蔷薇》对"革命文学"潮流的背离,也展现了茅盾这些小说在探索与反思女性解放问题方面的深刻意义。

Although Mao Dun indicated the subject to revolution,the expressions about the pursuing the females personality liberation and their destiny,the criticisms of the old society and old morality made Wild Rose continue the tradition of ＂novels in the May Fourth inovement＂ concerning female liberation.The doubt about the capability and fruitful result of the ideas of the females personality liberation in changing the female fate,the criticism of male chauvinism and old ruling class,the ironies on the revolutionary displayed that Wild Rose had deviated from the trend of ＂Revolutionary Literature＂,thereby the significance of the novel in research and reflection on Chinese female liberation was reveagled.
