Seed Market Structure and Agricultural Production Performance:A Case Study on Major Regional Corn Seed Markets in China

运用相对市场力量假说对2003-2008年的中国主要区域玉米种子市场结构与农业生产绩效之间的关系进行了实证研究。研究表明,市场化改革之后的中国玉米种子市场已经演变成竞争型市场,种子市场产品集中度下降明显,市场份额对农业生产单产水平具有正向影响,赫芬达尔指数对农业生产单产水平具有负向影响,符合相对市场力量假说。

This article makes use of the relative market power hypothesis to analyze the relationship between the China＇s maize seed market structure and the performanee of agricultural production from 2003 to 2008. The results show that the China＇s maize seed market has evolved into a competitive market after the market--oriented reforms in China seed market. The maize seed market concentration decreases significantly. The market share has a positive effect on the level of agricultural production, and the Herfindahl index a negative influence on the level of agricultural production, which is consistent with the relative market power hypothesis.
