On Application of Four-Character Phrase in English-Chinese Translation

四字结构,也称四字格,是汉语的一大特点也是一大优点。它在内容上言简意赅,形式上整齐匀称,语音上朗朗上口。在英汉翻译中如果能够充分发挥汉语的这一优势,恰当地运用四字结构,如套用成语、使用近义叠词、对偶词组等手段,将会大大提高译文的质量。因此,四字结构的研究在翻译领域有很重要的理论和实践价值。

Four-character phrase,also called four-character,is an important feature as well as a distinctive advantage of Chinese language.It is concise in content,parallel in form and readable in sound.If it is properly used in English-Chinese translation by means such as the application of idioms,double synonyms,couplet phrases and so on,the quality of translated work will be improved.Therefore,the study of four-character phrase deserves much attention in translation field theoretically and practically.
