On Inquivalence of Lexical Meanings——Study on Indeterminancy of Translation

语言意义存在不确定性。这种不确定性不仅存在于本族语言中,还表现在翻译方面。词语意义的不等值是翻译不确定性的表现之一。由于语言系统差异和文化差异,不同语言的词语在外延意义、内涵意义、文化语义、风格意义、音系意义等方面会表现出完全等值、不完全等值和不等值。翻译的等值是相对的,而不是绝对的。

Linguistic meaning has indeterminancy,which is manifested not only in native language,but also in translation.The inequivalence of lexical meanings is the proof of indeterminancy of translation.Owing to linguistic and cultural differences,words of different languages have full equivalence,partial equivalence and inequivalence in denotative meaning,connotative meaning,cultural meaning,stylitic meaning,sound meaning,etc.The equivalence of translation is relative,not absolute.
