In Language,Truth and Logic,one of Ayer＇s point is that ＇a factor which complicates the structure of a language such as English is the prevalence of ambiguous symbols.＂ Ayer believes that it is the prevalence of ambiguous symbols that cause the complexity of a language.This paper mainly demonstrates that Ayer＇s point runs counter to the hierarchy of language.The polysemous of words such as ＂be＂ is not the cause of the complexity of a language,but the representation of the hierarchy of language.
