Brief Analysis on the History and Value of the Ancient Wall in Baoqing Prefecture

宝庆府古城墙承传着邵阳两千多年的历史信息,经历了一个由县城而郡城、州城,由州城而府城的逐步升级、拓展的历史变迁过程。曾有过邵阳县署、宝庆府署、江川王府一城三府的盛况,其防御体系完整坚固,又是太平天国重要的战争遗址。因宋理宗曾授封邵州防御使,也使宝庆府城成为封建皇权的象征,同时,也是宋明理学与湖湘文化的发源地之一,具有较高保护开发利用价值。

Baoqing ancient wall has inherited more than 2000 years of historical information of Shaoyang City.It saw an upgrading process of shaoyang city from a county town,then a county of a city,and finally a prefecture-level city with corresponding prosperous periods.It shows the city＇s defense system is complete and perfectly solid.The wall is also a historical site of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolutionary War.Baoqing perfecture was once the symbol of feudal imperial power as Song Lizong appointed the defence ambassador in Shaozhou.Meanwhile,it was one of the sources of confucian school of idealist philosophy of the Song and Ming Dynasties and Huxiang culture as well,worthy of protecting,developing and using.
