沈祖棻是李清照之后最杰出的女词人。从女性词史的角度说,《涉江词》是《漱玉集》之后最好的女性词集;从新文学传统的角度说,沈祖棻词较当时同辈词人多了现代性,却少了沉郁;从学人词的传统角度说,20世纪词家,大多受清代学人词传统影响,与同辈两位女词人吕碧城、丁宁相比,沈词最见学养。
