英汉语篇名词重复现象比较研究

A Comparative Analysis of English and Chinese Nominal Repetitions in Text

Halliday & Hasan(1976)指出语篇中的名词重复具有照应功能,但他们并没有进一步区分名词重复和代词照应的应用情景。国内学者一般认为,英语尽量避免重复,汉语较常使用重复。文章根据功能语言学的语篇衔接理论对英汉语篇中的各类名词重复现象进行了对比分析,发现名词重复在英语和汉语中都是应该尽量避免的,汉语常用重复体现在具有照应功能的抽象名词、泛指名词、述题中的非焦点实称名词和具有替代功能的实称名词等方面,英语中有些名词重复现象则是无法避免的。

Halliday Hasan（1976）put forwardthat nominal repetitions can function as reference in text,but they did not further distinguish the application situation of nominal repetitions from that of pronominal references.Chinese Scholars generally hold that repetitions should be avoided as far as possible in English,but are relatively commonly used in Chinese.A comparative analysis of English and Chinese nominal repetitions in text carried out in this paper according to the cohesive theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics shows,however,that nominal repetitions should be avoided in both English and Chinese,and the relatively high frequency of use of repetitions in Chinese is reflected in abstract nouns,nouns in general terms,non-focal nouns functioning as reference in Rheme,and nouns functioning as substitution.Some nominal repetitions are unavoidable in English.
