The article introduces Ethernet passive optical network（EPON）,which have the advantages of saving the optical fiber,reducing the construction cost,easy to extend network and so on.Moreover,it describes the typical application of EPON to construct the rural broad band network.Through analyzing on the two popular of the construction scheme of network,including fiber to the home（FTTH） and fiber to the village（FTTV）,it expounds the different of application scene from the points of technology and cost.
