This paper reviewed the researches on physiological function of kidney in traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）,elaborated the present understanding of etiology of acute and chronic renal failure in Western veterinary medicine and traditional Chinese veterinary medicine,and analyzed the syndrome classification of renal failure,as well as treatment principles of acute and chronic renal failure.
