A known sterol has been isolated from the marine sponge Biemna fortis collected from the South China Sea.Its structure has been identified on the basis of IR,MS, 1H NMR as:24-methylcholesta-7,22E-diene-3β,5α-diol-6-one. It is first reported about the chemical constitrent of the marine sponge Biemna fortis.
