A New Strategy for Outstanding Engineering Talents Training in the U.S.A:A Review on the Implementation of Grand Challenge Scholars Program

"大挑战学者计划"(GCSP)是美国工科院校针对美国工程院(NAE)提出的14项工程大挑战而实施的工程拔尖人才培养新战略,旨在通过改革工程人才培养模式,培养能够应对21世纪工程大挑战的卓越工程师。GCSP把综合性、跨学科的学习内容和非课程活动参与结合起来,以此培养学生的实践创新能力,是一个涵盖学生选拔、课程设置、教师配备、过程控制、资格认定的全面计划,是对"大工程观"的再次强化。

Addressing the 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering in the 21st Century identified by the NAE,the Grand Challenge Scholars Program（GCSP）has been established as a new strategy for outstanding engineering talents training.GCSP is designed to prepare students to be the excellent engineers solving the grand challenges in this century by reforming the model of engineering talents training.GCSP,a reinforcement of ＂Engineering with a Big E＂,combines integration,interdisciplinary curriculum and extra curriculum activities to develop the practice innovation ability,which is a comprehensive program involving student selection,curricular components,faculty allocation,procedural control and affirmation of qualification.
