塞缪尔.柏格理对贵州民族地区教育的发展作出了重大的贡献,他创办乌蒙山区第一所苗民小学,实行双语教学,开男女同校先河,培养全面发展的人才,发展本民族教师队伍,建构基础教育体系,培育出20世纪上半叶中国西南最大的基础教育网络。

Samuel Pollard made great contributions to the development of education in areas inhabited by ethnic minority groups.He founded the first primary school in the Wumeng Mountains for boy and girl pupils of the Miao nationality,practicing a bi-lingual teaching,developing them in an all-around way.He trained teachers of the Miao nationality,established an elementary educational system,bringing about the greatest network of elementary education in the southwest of China in the first half of the 20th century,thus making the Shimenkan Area become the ＂Cultural Sacred Place＂ in the Southwest.He initiated folk sports,making it possible for Shimenkan area to become the cradle of football in Guizhou.
