Norman Mailer has all along been considered as the "conscience of American literature in the 20th century",and he even been called a "literary terrorist".No matter for positive or negative appraises, his image as a "fighter" is recognized by almost all observers. His radical idealism is fully demonstrated in his existentialist declaration The White Negro. However, the dualistic philosophy and method of thinking in this work,i.e.,"either God or Satan",is not only itself a kind of cultural conservatism, but also further make himself,in this diversified new era,an alternative representative of the "Conservative liberalism" once fiercely attacked by himself. This paper exposes the radical conservatism in Norman Mailer's thought by analysis and commentary on the two stages in his thought.
