叶小纲、谭盾、郭文景、瞿小松被称为中国作曲界的＂四大才子＂。四人当中,叶小纲又被认为是最帅的一个。见到叶小纲,他的帅气着实让他显得出类拔萃,不过,叶小纲的自信远远超出了他的帅气。有底气的人自然是自信的。叶小纲有这样的底气,所以当歌剧《咏·别》还犹抱琵琶半遮面的时候,叶小纲便敢在公开场合自信地宣称：＂我的歌剧时间到了!＂

Ye Xiaogang values Cai Yuanpei's idea of 'independent spirit and freedom of thought.' This idea became the yardstick for his Song of Farewell.Ye said,'I must put my limited energies to what I believe is most worthwhile.' What distinguishes Song of Farewell is Peking opera.To Ye,incorporating Peking Opera elements in a western opera is a good opportunity not only for research but also for inventing a new genre for China.Ye Xiao-gang's goal is to become China's Wagner,putting art before all in opera.One day he might even write his own libretto and conduct his own opera.
